Cellular Echoes
Environmental Influences in the Journey From the Womb to the World

The title of this article is the name of a new documentary that explores imprinting (the formation of a lasting impression on any new life form) as it occures to animals and humans from conception forward. New compelling research is indicating that awareness is present from conception forward that opens additional avenues of
understanding about personality formation. From the moment of conception the zygote is in a stimulus response process with the surrounding environment as tiny protein receptors begin recording information vital to the growth of the newly forming human being.
The type of information recorded ranges from chemical to emotional. Once it has been obtained it is taken into the nucleus of the cell where it is evaluated and resp onded to. The responses become stored data in energetic layers with the body. Another way to say this is this information becomes templates of perception about the environment in which the baby is forming.

Soon the zygote is an active fetus that is in this dynamic stimulus-response dance with the mothers body. The mother is in the same interaction with her external environment using her senses as her receptors to gather information. Her information is then carried in the nero peptides and chemicals in her blood stream to the fetus. If she is in a positive state of mind she is sending constructive information to the baby and the overall response for the baby is one of optimum growth. Blood supply goes to the fore brain and the hind brain. The fore brain is about love, compassion,
higher reasoning and creativity. The hind brain is about survival, fight or flight and my will be done. If the mother is a state of high tensio n and stress she is producing stress hormones which tell the fetus to grow but in a compromised manner that is a state of protection which then activates the hind brain. Already this little one inside is learning it is not a safe world. In respect to what a woman needs to have a good pregnancy she needs good nutrition, a protective and loving partner and security. When one looks around in our world how many women have poor nutrition, a stressful
relationship and little security? In the vast majority of cases a woman can only produce a baby as healthy as she is.

There are other relevant factors regarding pregnancy. The sense of hearing is totally developed at 28 weeks gestation and before a baby comes into the world it is listening to the sounds outside the mother. Furthermore, because the liquid is right next to the ear drum the sound is amplified. So consider what they hear: the mothers heart beat, blood circulation and breathing. They also hear the voices of the parents. If the parents are making sounds that are
soothing and peaceful it will have a positive effect on the growth of this tiny unborn child.IF the parents are fighting it will have the opposite effect again causing the release of stress hormones and greater hind brain activation. According to Dr. Thomas Verny author of Secret Life of the Unborn Child and Nurturing the Unborn Child, the baby within knows the mothers entire attitude toward her pregnancy and can feel and respond to all of her emotions. If she is
in rapport with her pregnancy she is sending emotional information that is creating harmony within her body. If she is not in rapport with her pregnancy and sending those messages to the fetus then the emotional field the baby is growing in is one of disharmony and stress. How does this translate into the personality? Usually this child is one who never feels like the y belong and are often quite insecure no matter what. In either case the baby within is already acquiring a data base of information about the outer world.

Then the transition from the womb to the world THE BIRTH. Consider leaving an environment of warm, liquid, dark, contained and gravity free to gravity, light, sound, air, and usually chaos. That in

itself is a huge change for the nervous system to adjust to and then if you add invasive procedures due to birth complications it can be a very shocking experience for the baby to integrate. The prevailing attitude about this is that the baby doesn't have the awareness to remember these events and it is soon forgotten. In light of current understanding the early traumas are stored in that data base in the tissue, brain, and nervous system and are awakened when resembling experiences occur later in life. Example: a premature baby is quite often put in an isolate and many invasi ve procedures are necessary for saving its life. Because it is alone and without the mother for an extended period of time it actually bonds with isolation. As an adult when under stress these people often seek isolation as a
reference point of safety for that is what they are familiar with. We are creatures of habit. We find security in the known established pathways of experience.

What does a baby need most when arriving in this world? Besides the breast, Joseph Chilton Pearce, author of The Magical Child and many other books says the baby needs a pair of human eyes to gaze into for it will turn on the whole brain and nothing else will. Their eyes are developed enough to see 6-12 inches away from themselves and if
you put a baby to the breast it is just about that distance. Baby can receive nuturing from breastfeeding as well as looking into the mother's eyes for orientation. Another critical element that gives th e baby positive orientation is the sound of the mother's or fathers heartbeat. Babies who don't get these things have a much harder time adjusting to the world they have just arrived in and can go into fight or flight. They need continued contact with their parents to
feel secure. In our culture we have many problems with attachment disorder. That condition can occur when the bonding process is interrupted. A very successful antidote for this condition is infant massage for in that process if the parent delivers the massage several times a week it fosters bonding and attachment. Bonding happens through the senses and infant massage activates the senses for both the mother and the baby. Of course loving parents can off
set a lot of early trauma.
Sadly non-bonded babies can become the most violent adults. Bonding is critical for it assists in the development of a conscious and the awareness of self and others. In studies done on serial killers it has been found that the base line for the behavior they display is ruptured bonding through out life.

All of the early formation experiences are held in the cellular data base being referred to in this article. When a person comes to resembling experiences later in life they will automatically refer to the original response stored in he cells, nervous system and brain because it is the known established pathway. This process happens through the unconscious and is almost impossible to prevent. The way to free oneself of habitual responses that can also be called imprints is to choose to respond differently to those stimulus that set off habitual patterns in ones character.

Tribal people from many parts of the world have this understanding but do not have science to back up their nowledge therefore their insight has been given little credence or seen as primitive and not modern. The film Cellu lar Echoes, Environmental Influences in the Journey From the Womb to the World, is a cross cultural exploration of both science and tribal birth wisdom. The tribal people have the rituals to acommodate what science can now validate. Their birthing practices are full of respect for the newly forming human within. Example: In the Dagara Tribe of W. Africa when a couple is trying to conceive a baby a welcoming ritchual is done to attract a soul to the family. During that ritual the entire tribe commits to raising the child so the parents don't have to feel alone in the process. Then
the community builds an alter to the child and people bring gifts for placement on that alter to welome the child into their tribe. During
the pregnancy a listening ritual is done and the grandparents ask the ancestors on the other side to give them the name and life purpose of the child. When the mother is doing the physical birth with the women th e father is doing the spiritual birth with the men. When the baby comes out the children are singing to the baby to greet it into
this world.
The author of this article and producer of the above mentioned film, DeAnna Elliott. has been certifying practioners in the art of infant massage for the past 25 years. Through working with thousands of infants and their families using the vehicle of touch she learned that infants have tremendous awareness that is not recognized. She also conducted a private therapeutic massage practice during that time and learned about cell memory. The goal with the film is to
increase cultural sensitivity to the formations stages of human development along with bridging understanding of many cultures and disciplines to bring unification to our shared condition as the human race.
